Travel Medicine

If you are planning to travel abroad check your destination at www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk  for any vaccinations /Malaria tablets you may require. If you have a record of previous immunisations check and see if you are covered for your next trip.

If you are not covered or are unsure download and complete a travel form below. The form can be completed using Acrobat Reader or printed out and completed by hand. It is preferable if you return the form 6 – 8 weeks prior to travel. Your travel plans, medical history and vaccination status will be reviewed and you will be offered up to date personalised advice.

The NHS only makes provision for some of the vaccinations you may need. These include Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Polio, Tetanus and Diptheria. There are Public Health reasons why the government has decided to fund these vaccinations. If you need any other vaccinations or medicines to travel these are not covered by the NHS and will incur a private charge.

This fee has been introduced as these items are not currently available on the NHS and therefore are considered Private medical work. Our current Travel fee is £65 per person which includes a private prescription. There is no fee for all patients under the age of 16.

Yellow Fever Centre

We currently offer Yellow Fever vaccination and certification to patients not registered with our practice. A fee of £60 per person is applicable which covers the cost of the vaccine and the administrative duties attached to providing it to you with the appropriate documentation. Please telephone to make an appointment.

Access to health care whilst abroad

Ensure you apply for and carry a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which entitles you to access immediately necessary state provided Health care in the EEA (European Economic Area) countries and Switzerland. This card replaces the E111 form. The treatment you receive whilst carrying this card will be at a reduced cost or sometimes even free. For more information or to apply online visit www.dh.gov.uk/travellers

Travelling to a Non-EEA country? You may also receive reduced rate or free treatment if the country you are travelling to has a reciprocal agreement with the UK. Visit the Non EEA Countries guidance page on the NHS site.

The EHIC does not cover all Health Care costs so remember you still need travel Insurance.
